1830 Rousseau Pier Table Restoration
The stabilization of this very rare example of Early Low Country furniture design has been a very meticulous process. The original finish was left intact and lightly oiled and polished. The damaged marble top was pieced back together and carefully exfoliated to lift ring stains and acidic damage. Afterwards, the stone was resealed. The original corner braces were reset to retain structural integrity. The signature and other original inscription were left untouched.

Decorative Arts: It's All About Being Southern
Southern Decorative Arts, whether primitive or polished, are what Relic Pine specializes in when it comes to adding a bit of integrity to a home's interior design. Our restoration team can even replicate missing details to bring even the most dilapidated antique back to life and functionality. We recently acquired several Southern pieces that had been stored in a local barn for a number of years. All are primarily associated with Antebellum Georgia.
Planter's Desk
The "plantation desk" has seen some hard use from being moved several times by wagon. The scars indicate frequent loading and unloading. Due to its size, secret compartments, and that it can be disassembled into two manageable sections, desks such as this often saw wartime use by staff officers and commanders during the War Between the States. The scars could have easily resulted from the rigors of arduous campaigning.
Assembled with hand-wrought nails and hand plained mahogany, we believe the desk dates back to the 1840s. Note that the scars will not be patched or repaired....the desk earned them from years of faithful service.
Drop Leaf Table
The small drop leaf table is crafted from pine and mahogany in the Empire Style. The drawer is held together with thinly crafted dovetails. Hand-wrought nails and wooden dowels were used to tie it all together. Probably designed to be a part of a larger set, this piece could have served as an attractive side table.
Small Wall Cabinet
The small cabinet is constructed of Southern Longleaf Pine and exhibits delicate carving. Dating to between 1870 and 1880, the little cabinet was probably used within a kitchen setting for medicines and tinctures. The central opening may have held a small painting, pine panel, or mirror. Our restoration team will design a period-appropriate replacement before putting it back into service.
Relic Pine often uses antiques in various project designs but we also make items available for individual sale on our website. Our restorations team also restores antiques for its customers by appointment.
